WHAT IS A “MUNCH?”
A Munch is what you call a small, informal, social gathering of BDSM folk, usually at a public venue of a very ordinary nature, like the back room of a diner or a pub. Attendees are generally asked to NOT dress kinky nor bring toys, as its a public venue. Munches are all about creating normal social interactions with other local kinky folk.
A Munch is NOT a play party nor any sort of real “Fetish Event.” People go to Munches, which happen all over the place, mainly just to socialize with other local kinky folk, albeit doing so “below the general public radar.” Munches are a good place to go and attend when you are new to a community and want to meet other kinky folk. You get to know the local BDSM Community, and they get to know you. This is superb for making those kinky friends who just might one day introduce you to a great Play Partner.
If you go to a Munch, keep your expectations modest, don’t be “on the prowl,” and just enjoy who you meet. Present yourself well and be polite. Strike up conversations, be friendly, and be your best self. Almost all munches around the world are 100% Free and anyone can attend… all you have to do is show up at the generally-public venue at the specified time.
Sometimes Munches have a minor theme, like a focused discussion of “who loves bondage / pet play / impact play / favorite toys / stories of best scenes & games / etc.” This is less common than Munches with ordinary, open conversation. On rare occasions Munches, although below the public radar, might want attendees to observe a degree of BDSM Etiquette, so if there are any such uncommon rules in place be sure to observe them. 🙂
A great example of how useful a Munch can be is how I was traveling in Singapore and I looked up a Munch there using the “Places” tab at the top of the page on Fetlife. I ended up making a whole bunch of new kinky friends in Singapore. No one outside the event would have had any idea that we were not all just associates from some business or university.
Munches can be a lot of fun, and as said they are a great place to start if you are new in a community. 🙂
